    Brandeis defeated fifth-seed Rivier College, 7-5, in their opener Saturday, but bowed to No. 3 seed Endicott, 6-1, later in the day. The Judges will take on No. 7 seed Simmons College at 11 a.m. Sunday in an elimination game. The winner of that contest will face Endicott for the championship.

    The senior pitcher was a star, striking out 11 and driving in the game-winning run as Brandeis advanced in the ECAC Division III New England Softball Championship Tournament. The Judges now will face Rivier College at 10 a.m. Saturday on Marcus Field.

    A fencer since childhood, Julian Cardillo '14 had plenty of reasons to come to Brandeis: His elder brother, also a fencer, came here; he liked veteran Coach Bill Shipman, and he was attracted to the academics. This weekend, having made the nationals for the second straight year, Cardillo will compete at Ohio State. Beyond that, this would-be journalist's thoughts are beginning to turn to an attempt to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team.

    Last week at the Pan Am games in Guadalajara, Mexico, the U.S. National Team took the gold in the men’s saber team event and Tim Morehouse won the silver medal in the individual event. If all goes according to plan, Morehouse will take part in his third Olympic competition this summer in London. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Morehouse took home a silver medal.

    As the Lindsey Pool undergoes renovations, Director of Athletics Sheryl Sousa '90 announced Monday that Brandeis University has hired Mike Kotch as the new head coach of the men's and women's swimming and diving programs. Kotch has served as head coach and director of aquatics at Regis College since 2008.

  • Norton caps cross country career with national honorJune 27, 2011

    Recent Brandeis University graduate Paul Norton of Amherst, Mass., has been named a third-team Capital One Academic All-America selection in cross country and track and field, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors Association. Last month Norton graduated summa cum laude with degrees in music and economics.
