President Fred Lawrence's Trip to India, February 2012

This past February, the Brandeis President, together with a small group of faculty spent two weeks in India, exploring collaborations in the sciences with leading Indian institutions, and holding public discussions that raise the university’s profile in the world’s largest democracy and strengthen ties with Brandeis’ growing network of Indian alumni and supporters.

MusicUnitesUs Residency Featured North Indian Music 

On Saturday, March 10th at 8:00 p.m. the World Music Concert presented "Improvisations: Raga in Afghanistan and North India" at Slosberg Music Center. The performance featured Homayun Sakhi, on the Afghan rubâb; Ken Zuckerman, on sarod; and Salar Nader, on the tabla. Prior to the concert, Theodore Levin, Arthur R. Virgin Professor of Music at Dartmouth College, hosted a pre-concert talk.

Spring 2012 Sorabjee Given by Prof. Bina Agarwal 

In March, the acclaimed Indian feminist economist, Bina Agarwal, who studies gender, development, and agriculture in India and throughout South Asia presented a lecture on "Gender and Forest Governance: A History of Absence, the Impact of Presence" as part of the Spring 2012 Soli Sorabjee Lecture in South Asian Studies. 

Lectures by Brandeis Prof. Harleen Singh featured in MFA Boston Series

Professor Harleen Singh presented two lectures as part of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston course series A Visual Journey Through India: Past and Present. She spoke on April 4 and 11, in talks titled Indian Cinema: the Musical Melodrama of the Nation, and Telling the Indian Tale in English.
