The Brandeis Institute for International Judges (BIIJ) provides members of the international judiciary with the opportunity to meet and discuss critical issues concerning the theory and practice of international justice. Institutes are held approximately every 18 months, bringing together judges serving on international courts and tribunals around the world to reflect on the practical challenges as well as philosophical aspects of their work.
NEW: Judicial Dialogue in Action: International Judges Reflect: Key sections of BIIJ reports are now available as PDFs.
The seventh BIIJ was held from July 25 to 30, 2010 in Salzburg, Austria, around the theme, “Toward an International Rule of Law.” Brandeis is pleased that participants were joined by Anthony Kennedy, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court; and Patricia O’Brien, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs, who was the institute’s keynote speaker.
